Well here I sit the last Thursday of the summer. On some accounts it feels as though we did alot these past two months but in other ways we never did do all our usual summer activities. so today is about missed activities and achieved activites, tossed in with some random thoughts or happenings in no apparent order.
1. We did our annual camping trip to Hicks Lake and had wonderful weather. I didn't even mind sleeping in a tent this time. It's amazing what a 6 inch air matress can do for comfort. Don't even let your dirty minds go there the minute I mention 6 inch.
2. I guess the waterslides weren't in the cards this year as we didn't make it to them. They close for the season on Monday and with the current cold rain we are having it doesn't look like its going to happen.
3. Went to the states shopping and camping and golfing. Oh yeah! that was a great trip. I was born and raised in Canada but for some reason feel like the USA is more my home.
4. We are less then 20 minutes from Cultus Lake. I have gone to this lake every single year since I have lived in BC. Alas I haven't made it up there once yet this year. Next sunny day I am going to make a point of going and hiking Teapot Hill then going for a swim in the lake. http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/cultus_lk/
5.Last Saturday I took Kaikoa and Nevada for a casting call for the Disney Channel. No call back yet so you wont see me as the bad mommy on the cover of the enquirer yet.
6.Hairball's mom had a knee replacement surgery at the beginning of summer so I've been driving her for her physio twice a week. Today is the last one. I enjoyed driving her and helping her with her shopping. She is a very easy person to be around and it makes me feel good to help her. She didn't ask her own daughter who she felt wasn't very reliable.
7.I came to realize these past few months that you can't help someone that doesn't want to be helped. I have been stressing myself and making myself unhappy trying to deal with someone that I'm pretty sure is dealing with depression. I guess I just realize that I can't fix everything.
8.We went to Playland a few weeks ago and I know now that I am never going to go on another ride except at Disneyland. I have tried the odd ride here or there over the past years and absolutely hate them. This year I went on that swing one where you sit in a chair attached by chains. That even made me sick and scared me. I am not putting myself through that again.
9. I was messing with the kids minds again, boy I like doing that... I told them the new toilet paper usage rule for the house was everyone gets a roll each a week and if they use it up they have to purchase more. They really believed me and I killed myself laughing when I told them the truth.
10.All my exercise and eating healthy has paid off in a big way. I am in the best shape I have been for years. Who would know?
11.I'm kind of excited that the kids are going back to school. I like the quiet time during the day where I can just do what I want. I am planning on starting the quilt from the pattern Lisa did.
12.The worst thing about school is having to make lunches everyday. I try to put healthy things in but sometimes its just easier and quicker to throw in a pudding or a bag of chips. The worst year ever was when Kaikoa had a kid with a peanut allergy in his class and he wasn't allowed to bring PB and J to school. Got to love peanut butter its natures best treat.
13. Well looky here I didn't think I would make it to 13 and I still have alot of useless thoughts and rambling to put down here. Happy Labour Day Long Weekend to everyone.
(Don't even let your dirty minds go there the minute I mention 6 inch.) Heheheeee.
ReplyDeleteIt did seem that the Summer flew by. Definitely did not do as much as I usually do in the Summer.
Gonna have a nice Labor (Labour) Day Weekend. I know it won't be stress free, but I will do my best
to hide from that situation. I wanna be beach bound every minute I can.
Have a great Labour Day Weekend C.
I wonder who started the 6 inch thought? Is that the norm or bigger or smaller? enquiring minds and all that
ReplyDeleteUgh, don't ask me. Hehehee.
ReplyDelete*adroitly sidestepping the six inch question*
ReplyDeleteIt may seem like you didn't do as much as usual this summer, but from here, it looks like you had a lot of fun, anyway. Too bad the rain and weather aren't cooperating with you for this last bit of the summer before Labor/Labour Day.
Here along the Northern California coast, we are just beginning the most beautiful time of year, and summer seems to stretch on into September and mid-October. The days, though becoming shorter, will continue to be warm, with blue skies, perfect for getting out and enjoying the many parks and trails in the area. Your Cultus Lake looks like a great place for family outings.
You have a wicked sense of humor... especially if the TP rationing seemed, well, rational to your kids!
Your avoidance makes me thinketh you are giving this alot of thought...
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth re #10 - I noticed...(not that there's anything wrong with that). You might not have done as much as usual, but you had to work around your MIL and Harrison's schedules which probably cut into your ability to do things time. Sides there's only a finite # of things that you can do in a single lifetime - and if you cram in too much too soon - you'll die early.
ReplyDeleteI smiled at the toilet paper story because knowing your frugality and your kids - I am not at all surprised they believed you.....I would have caught on because theres no way you'd let them use an whole roll in a week.
And I was joking about the dying early part...you're just a born overachiever and there's nothing to be done about it.
Haley is making me want to take a trip to Northern California, sigh....
That is actually a baseline thought...
ReplyDeleteNorthern California, particularly along the coast, is a worthy destination, particularly in September through late October.
ReplyDeletethat is the right word, it should never be mixed up with the word 'cheap'. It's just not the same.
ReplyDeleteHaving lived in Northern California I would have to agree. The fall there is breathtaking without the heat or crowds.
ReplyDeleteLove these rambling thoughts...good luck to the kids for the Disney Channel Call Back. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are all good thoughts for a thursday 13. I cant seem to get 13 aNYTHING. damn caps button. your kids really beleived you??? I think that is so funny. My oldest son beleived everyting I told him. I told him one time the tiny flop i had on my keychain was his as a baby, and he grew up beleiving that. he even told his friends that.
ReplyDeleteEm, really later on in the year, september october really is the best time. or the early spring. buth are great, i think.
