Thursday Thirteen

Image/

Thirteen uses for snow.

1.  Covers the leaves not raked up from fall.

2. Covers the lawn not mowed from fall.

3. Covers the cracks in the driveway, not repaired in the summer.

4. Hides the lawn furniture left out.

5. Covers the unsightly shrubs that needed trimming.

6. Good excuse not to go to work.

7.  Excellent reason to stay in a warm bed.

8. Makes even the trashiest places look pretty.

9. Good for drinking in the event your pipes freeze up.

10. Great for tracking that neighbors dog that has been crapping in your yard.

11. Nice weapon for hitting that certain someone in the head and pretending it was all in fun.

12. At last you can wear your boots you bought 20 years ago and they're back in style.

13.  You don't have to worry about how your hair looks as you can wear a hat outside and claim hat head.

let it snow let it snow let it......

we all know the rest of the song.  It has been snowing here steadily for the last day and a half.  Hopefully they will cancel school tomorrow as our city's solution to the snow build up is let the rain wash it away..  This morning I shoveled our driveway from the road to the house.  This was no easy task as our driveway is over 300 feet long.  While doing the section by the road I was slushed by a car driving by.  If I had been thinking quicker I would have pelted him with an iceball.   Of course I have no way of knowing if the driver was male or female but around here males have the whole I can drive as fast as I want in any driving condition mentality.

Speaking of which my eldest son has just past his learners test.  Yesterday I let him drive around our neighborhood.  I know now I am not equipped to teach anyone to drive.  In between laughing and covering my eyes ,  I don't think he learned any usefull driving skills.  That is one area I will gladly pass on to the old Hairball....

stuck on the roof

Don't ever think this can't happen to you.   Yesterday after all the wind and rain we got,  Harry decided I should go up and clean the gutters.  His knees are buggered so he couldn't do the ladder thing.   Well I cleaned down the one long side off of the ladder but when I came to the front there was no place to lean the ladder.   I thought I will just climb on the roof and do the front.   Well I got up OK and had the gutters cleaned in a jiffy.  Upon returning to the ladder I realized I had no idea how to climb back on it.  I tested the gutter a bit to see if it would hold my weight but decided not to chance it.  I sat for a while and called for Harry.  He was too busy playing on the puter and didn't hear me.  I eventually bellied my way to the edge and swung my feet over onto the ladder.   It turns out you are supposed to put the ladder up higher so you have something to grab with your hands.   After I was down the neighbor came over and said she thought I was stuck up there but by the time she grabbed her boots and coats I was down.   We all had a great laugh about it.....

weighty or frivolous issue....

you decide.

I personally like smiles when the teeth are showing.  Some people tend to smile and keep their lips pressed shut.  I think they are trying to hide something or aren't really smiling.  One of those phony "yes your haircut is wonderful" type comments.  With the lips shut we really don't know what is going on in the mouth.  They could have their tongue on the roof of the mouth. This to me would indicate that they're really not into the smile.  Pasting a phony one on.  What do you think ?Image/

Entry for November 09, 2006

I am typing this with sadness in my heart and a great big lump in my throat.  This morning I will be taking my sister and putting her in the hospital.  The Dr. says she might live 2 more days or possibly up to 2 weeks.  She has gone down hill fast.  She  can  barely get a sip of water down.  My mom is coming on the bus today I hope she gets here in time.

For those that don't know my sister has in-operable lung cancer.  We are only 15 months apart.  She never married and has no  children.  This to me makes me even sadder for her early passing in life.  It seems she didn't get to experience all one should have in life.

Entry for November 02, 2006

Well,  Spartonmom says I need a new entry so here I go.

After three days of freezing sunny weather we are back to our usual Wet Coast Fall.      Halloween was great trick-or-treating without an umbrella but we did freeze.  The kids wanted to call it quits earlier as their hands were numb.  I had to laugh they were arguing over who had to knock on the doors.

Canadian Remembrance Day is coming up on Nov 11.  The preceding Friday,  Nevada gets to read a poem in front of the whole school at the assembly.   She is a little nervous about this, but I told her she has a week to practice and just pretend she's reading a story to her class like she does everyday.   I am so proud of her I will probably be weeping in the audience.

The house is coming along and the boys are finally in their rooms downstairs.  Now  the daunting task of arrranging the two living rooms and finally unpacking the rest of the stuff.

What do you think of the time change?  I don't particularly like the early darkness in the evening but love being up even earlier.  I hear a rumour that there might not be anymore time changes.   I like the fall one better then the spring when you lose an hour of sleep.
