Entry for December 31, 2006

Well as this is the last day of 2006 I figure I better add another entry into my sparce stargate log.

This has been a very long year with many trials in my life. I am grateful that I have learned lessons which took me over 40 years to learn. Proving that your never too old to change.

I use to appoligize for others behaviours. Now I only appoligize for my own transgressions few as they are lol.

I have learned not to judge people. We can leave that to whoever is in charge at the end of life.

I think I also have more compassion for street people and drug addicts. One wrong choice in life can lead us down a road we had never forseen. I'm sure as a child none of these people said "When I grow up I will live on the streets and be hooked on drugs"

Happy New Year to everyone

Boxing Day

The day for families to get into squabbles and box like prize fighters.....

Actually I am not sure what Boxing Day stands for but for us it has always been a holiday and usually spent drinking with friends. Christmas Day you have to spend with family whether you want to or not so Boxing Day is really when the fun begins..

Happy Day

Well I actually woke up happy today. It feels so good to be out of the funk. Normally I am very upbeat and happy go lucky person. This last month I have been under tremendous stress and worry. I was feeling blue with no energy. Today I am wide awake and back to my normal cheerfull self. Yeah, I feel so good I am going to sing from the roof tops. Well maybe not, as we have our fourth windstorm hitting us trying to knock our power out.

Merry Christmas to everyone drinks on me...

Entry for December 10, 2006

It's been a very trying time, but  I feel a burden has been lifted from my shoulders.  My sister has gone to a better place now free from pain. She left this world Sat Nov.9 just after noon.  She was very accepting of her death and talked about it freely.  She had faith in God and knew she would be taken care of in her afterlife.  I think most of the sadness I feel is that her life was too short.  She was only 44 years old.
I have learned one thing from this which has had a profound effect on me and that is not to be  so judgemental.  She had so many wonderful friends and they all accepted her for who she was faults and blessings.

Well the weather outside is frightful.lalalalalalalalala   Can't remember the rest.

The snow is still here melting into a brown mushy mess but I can't complain.  Yesterday was nice and sunny.  Last night me and the kids went to our town's Christmas Lights Parade.  I t started at dark and luckily for us the parade route went by a few blocks from our house.  We walked down to watch it and didn't have to fight  the  traffic leaving after the parade.  I must say some people put a lot of effort into their floats while others hmmmm.  (just there for the free advertising I think)  Standing out in the cold for hours however didn't do much for my sore throat.  This morning it is like someone has raked it over lava rocks.  Happy Sunday to all of my 3 readers lol

Thursday Thirteen

Image/

Thirteen uses for snow.

1.  Covers the leaves not raked up from fall.

2. Covers the lawn not mowed from fall.

3. Covers the cracks in the driveway, not repaired in the summer.

4. Hides the lawn furniture left out.

5. Covers the unsightly shrubs that needed trimming.

6. Good excuse not to go to work.

7.  Excellent reason to stay in a warm bed.

8. Makes even the trashiest places look pretty.

9. Good for drinking in the event your pipes freeze up.

10. Great for tracking that neighbors dog that has been crapping in your yard.

11. Nice weapon for hitting that certain someone in the head and pretending it was all in fun.

12. At last you can wear your boots you bought 20 years ago and they're back in style.

13.  You don't have to worry about how your hair looks as you can wear a hat outside and claim hat head.

let it snow let it snow let it......

we all know the rest of the song.  It has been snowing here steadily for the last day and a half.  Hopefully they will cancel school tomorrow as our city's solution to the snow build up is let the rain wash it away..  This morning I shoveled our driveway from the road to the house.  This was no easy task as our driveway is over 300 feet long.  While doing the section by the road I was slushed by a car driving by.  If I had been thinking quicker I would have pelted him with an iceball.   Of course I have no way of knowing if the driver was male or female but around here males have the whole I can drive as fast as I want in any driving condition mentality.

Speaking of which my eldest son has just past his learners test.  Yesterday I let him drive around our neighborhood.  I know now I am not equipped to teach anyone to drive.  In between laughing and covering my eyes ,  I don't think he learned any usefull driving skills.  That is one area I will gladly pass on to the old Hairball....

stuck on the roof

Don't ever think this can't happen to you.   Yesterday after all the wind and rain we got,  Harry decided I should go up and clean the gutters.  His knees are buggered so he couldn't do the ladder thing.   Well I cleaned down the one long side off of the ladder but when I came to the front there was no place to lean the ladder.   I thought I will just climb on the roof and do the front.   Well I got up OK and had the gutters cleaned in a jiffy.  Upon returning to the ladder I realized I had no idea how to climb back on it.  I tested the gutter a bit to see if it would hold my weight but decided not to chance it.  I sat for a while and called for Harry.  He was too busy playing on the puter and didn't hear me.  I eventually bellied my way to the edge and swung my feet over onto the ladder.   It turns out you are supposed to put the ladder up higher so you have something to grab with your hands.   After I was down the neighbor came over and said she thought I was stuck up there but by the time she grabbed her boots and coats I was down.   We all had a great laugh about it.....

weighty or frivolous issue....

you decide.

I personally like smiles when the teeth are showing.  Some people tend to smile and keep their lips pressed shut.  I think they are trying to hide something or aren't really smiling.  One of those phony "yes your haircut is wonderful" type comments.  With the lips shut we really don't know what is going on in the mouth.  They could have their tongue on the roof of the mouth. This to me would indicate that they're really not into the smile.  Pasting a phony one on.  What do you think ?Image/

Entry for November 09, 2006

I am typing this with sadness in my heart and a great big lump in my throat.  This morning I will be taking my sister and putting her in the hospital.  The Dr. says she might live 2 more days or possibly up to 2 weeks.  She has gone down hill fast.  She  can  barely get a sip of water down.  My mom is coming on the bus today I hope she gets here in time.

For those that don't know my sister has in-operable lung cancer.  We are only 15 months apart.  She never married and has no  children.  This to me makes me even sadder for her early passing in life.  It seems she didn't get to experience all one should have in life.

Entry for November 02, 2006

Well,  Spartonmom says I need a new entry so here I go.

After three days of freezing sunny weather we are back to our usual Wet Coast Fall.      Halloween was great trick-or-treating without an umbrella but we did freeze.  The kids wanted to call it quits earlier as their hands were numb.  I had to laugh they were arguing over who had to knock on the doors.

Canadian Remembrance Day is coming up on Nov 11.  The preceding Friday,  Nevada gets to read a poem in front of the whole school at the assembly.   She is a little nervous about this, but I told her she has a week to practice and just pretend she's reading a story to her class like she does everyday.   I am so proud of her I will probably be weeping in the audience.

The house is coming along and the boys are finally in their rooms downstairs.  Now  the daunting task of arrranging the two living rooms and finally unpacking the rest of the stuff.

What do you think of the time change?  I don't particularly like the early darkness in the evening but love being up even earlier.  I hear a rumour that there might not be anymore time changes.   I like the fall one better then the spring when you lose an hour of sleep.

Entry for Friday the 13th

I couldn't let today go by without some sort of recognition.  This has turned out to be a great day.   The weather has been beautiful and me and hubby spent the afternoon at the river.  Him fishing and me reading an Ann Rule book.   It was so quiet and relaxing.  All the fishing yahoo's from the summer are gone and we had the whole place to ourselves.   After catching and losing a trout Harry proceeded to lose the end of his rod so home we went.  Just killing time here waiting for someone to show up and chat with.  Contemplating making a drink.  I wish I had the liquor cabinet our resident wino has lol.....

Happy Weekend to any and all that read this

Well I guess its about time I added a new blog entry.   I just haven't felt the energy or had the time to give it proper thought.

Em said I had to write something so here I am trying to think of an amusing story after a somewhat non-amusing weekend.

Family what can I say you can't live with them and you can't visit with them......  One with think with someone close to dying they would become a nicer person.  I for one would want to be remembered with fondness.  I'm not sure if all of you know my sister is dying of in-operable lung cancer.  We have never really gotten along inspite of being only 15 months apart.   I have been feeling a little guilty about not spending enough of her last days with her, but I only can take so much abuse.  Having spent the  greater part of the Canadian Turkey weekend with my family I am ready to push her closer to the end.  Does this make me a bad person?   People say you have to have patience, well I always thought I had plenty but obviously I don't.  Well enough ranting I better come back when I am in a better mood....

Well its definitely cold and wet here this morning.  I guess I will drive the kids to school today.  We have been able to walk since school started.   I hate driving to the schools,  there is so much traffic.  I see people driving that live right next to the school practically.  I would think it would be more work getting in your car starting it up and driving for 2 minutes.   The boys school is close enough to walk in the rain but Nevada's school is a 20 minute walk on the best of days.  The schools here weren't designed and built for people driving either.  The conjestion in the drop off areas are terrible.  There also is barely no onsite parking.  People at the elementary park down the side of the road blocking the pedestrian traffic.  Last year  I took my digital camera and took pictures of everyone blocking the sidewalk.   I kept taking pictures untill they all drove away and parked farther down the street.  What is this teaching kids?  Lazyness is what.  Park as close as you can to the door so you don' t have to walk an extra foot.  Be damned if you are going to make it safer for the kids to walk home...

Are you frugal, or stingy?

Having to defend myself on numerous occasions I decided to do a little research.  Well actually I just happened to see this on the front of MSN today and it caught my thrifty little eye.

Well the first week of school has passed us by and the kids are happy with their teachers and classrooms.

How time flies,  I can't believe how life is just zinging by.  I remember my oldest first day of school and this year he is graduating.  He will be 16 this month and getting his driver's licence.  Today he has a job interview.  When people tell you to enjoy your kids they won't be with you forever it is certainly true.  Every accomplishment you are waiting for the next milestone.  Too darn quick though they are all grown up.   I think I will put my youngest in a box and keep her 6 for years to come...

Well two more days and the kids are back at school.  Where did the summer go? This is a big school year for the kids.   Harrison will be graduating this year with no idea what he wants to do in the future.  Kaikoa is starting middle-school, and little Nevada is going into GR. 1.

I wish we had a winter holiday planned  I want to go and lie on a white sandy beach this winter and do nothing.  But all our time and resourses have been going into the renovation.  I tell ya this is the last time we will take on a project this big.

Hope everyone is enjoying their labour day weekend;  all two of you that read my blog...lol

I am just not keeping up with the blog entries.   Lets see what to talk about.  Em in her blog today mentioned looking at the good things in ones life.

How about having a sweet little girl who rubbed lotion and massaged her mom's feet last night (summer sandals are taking their toll).   Or the teenager helping his mom make crabapple jelly,  while the middle son folded and put away 3 loads of laundry.   I am indeed blessed with wonderful children and am truly thankful.

Barking dogs

Well, yet another night with the neighbors dog, off on a barking marathon at 1:00 AM.   Do they not here her out there?  This isn't some small dogs yap yap,  but a big woof woof woof woof woof woof woof,  well you get the picture.   I am not sure how to deal with this as we are all new to the neighborhood and don't want any hard feelings between us.

Maybe I could drop the dog off in a neighboring town while they are at work.....

taking advantage

Well I am sure we all have had people take advantage of us.  Yesterday trying to do something nice for an old neighbor I agreed to watch her 6 month and 3 year old while her and hubby went to a retirement dinner for a co-worker.  Upon arriving at the house at 1030 am.  I was surprised to see that his 8 year old son from the first marriage was also included.

Unfazed I sent them on there merry way.  I had to immediatlry clean and sanitize the kitchen as it was so gross I didn't even want to lay my purse down.  6 hours later they arrived home and asked if they needed to pay me.  I said yes.... after a bunch of thought and hemming and hawing they didn't know how much.   I just wanted out at this time and said just give me 20 bucks.

There was no thank you for the cleaning of the house .  She thanked me for watching the  kids. She called today I thought she was giving me a belated thank you for cleaning her house.  all she asked is where the strap was for the highchair.  I never seen a strap.  I just washed and sanititized  I don't how many months of food out of it.

I think I have sucker wrote on my head.  I am not saying yes to one of these favours again.

Funny Tale

OK, anyone that knows me, knows that I am very frugal to the extreme...  Not to be confused with cheap....Well,  I found these black shorts that were almost like new, off the shelf.  I knew they would fit the hubby  (so they were on the woman's rack) they were practically giving them away.  So I bought them for .99.

I take them home and Harry says "aren't these womens shorts ", I reply "no they aren't they are mens try them on".  Well they fit and he decides he is happy.  He wears them a few times. I am washing them again the other day and I see the womans tag inside so I cut it out.  I am so mean.  I hope he  doesn't run into a lady wearing the same shorts.

4 penguins perish in freak Texas truck accident

Wow, that isn't a headline one expects to read.

Started raining yesterday and is still raining today.  Maybe it will give the grass some colour.  What to do on a rainy day in the summer.

Oh yeah we can hit the mall for back to school supplies.   26 more days and counting.

Stargate entry for August 06, 2006

Well I must say we are having a fabulous long weekend.   The weather has been perfect, warm and sunny but not that sweltering heat wave.  Hairball went fishing yesterday so the kids and I had a relaxing day at home.  We played in the  pool, hung around at the river and netted some fish for our pond.  It was most enjoyable.  Of course Harry caught some sockeye salmon so he had a great day also.  Being the man he is he didn't wear any sunscreen and now is lobster red.  At least I have him wearing a hat.

Not sure whats on today's agenda.  I think we might be heading to the lumber store.  Time is running out to get the basement done before school starts.

Our heat wave is totally over but it is sunny and clear out.  Me and the kids have been taking long walks in the morning.  Today we walked to town to look for a bathing suit.  I found a nice blue one but the store didn't have a changing room so I took it and went to my sister's and tried it on.  I didn't like the cut of the leg and there was too much room up top.  Turns out it fit my sister perfect so I gave it to her.  She was so happy,  She gave me these awesome runners that someone had given her. New Balance 810.  They fit me perfect.  I won't tell you they were from a nun that died.  Oops I guess  I told you.  Well maybe I will be blessed while walking.

You know sometimes the words and the subject just come easy to you.  Then there are those times you get writers block.   I'v been having that the last few days.  I guess it's lucky I am not an authorist (spelling?), on  a time schedule with a deadline  looming.   I have always wanted to be a writer though.  In highschool I could write short storys off the top of my head at any given time.

I just finished and awesome book called " The Kite Runner"  it gives a different perspective of life in the middle east.  I guess they are people just like us and not all of them are terrorists.

Well out of coffee so I am off to the kitchen.

Entry for July 30, 2006

Well I just had the most fruitless search for a new bathing suit.  Sears had this big ad in the paper about all their swim wear 50% off.  I drive across town and go to check it out.  They had maybe 5 matching top and bottoms all size 8.  One suit size 16 and the rest were all mismatched tops and bottoms.  I mean really mismatched they weren't in the same pattern, texture, nothing.   I finally found one nice top that I could use with some nice purple surf shorts I own.  Well it turns out that one wasn't included in the 50% off.  grrrrr

So to make a long story even longer I walked through the mall to Zellers and went and bought a bag of candy bananas and Bugles.....

Yum, yum those were the most delicious salmon steaks.  I marinated them overnight in a homemade teriaki sauce.  I'm thinking of using the leftovers for pizza or to make a salmon pie.  Today it is finally cool enough to think about cooking in the house.  It's only supposed to go to 23 C today.  Tonite the kids have a swim meet.  It's the last one of the season.  Free barbeque after that.  Glad we won't be sweltering there on the pavement.

happy weekend.

Well it seems my lovely spider pic is getting quite the stir.  That monster sucker with meat on his legs was spotted on my arm one morning.  I was brushing my hair in the bathroom mirror and saw its reflection in the mirror on my arm.  I tell ya,  I never screamed so loud in my life.  I wacked it to the floor then it started scurring around.   My big brave teenage son jumped on the toilet seat and wouldn't help.  Kaikoa finally rounded it up and let it loose outside.  The tile you see it on is a 12" floor tile.  I normally don't mind spiders but this was one huge sucker.
