Thursday Thirteen

Well I can't really think of a theme so how about a hodge podge of possibly unrelated subjects.

1. Ten more days till my birthday.  I am happy to be celebrating it in Florida.  Every year in BC it is pouring rain on my parade.  I am thinking we will take the inter-coastal taxi and go for a tour of how the better half live.

2. Today I smiled at this real bitch of a lady from the front complex and wished her a good morning.  She was so ticked she almost had apoplexy.  This has kept a permanent smile on my face.  In fact I am going to start seeking her out to smile and say hi to her.  I think I might even stand in her sun today and keep up the friendly chatter.

3. Tonight we are going out for supper in Lucaya and then enjoy the Sheraton hot tubs and pool.  Thanks Em the pool card and towel is the gift that keeps on giving.

4. Stepped on the scale this morning and am happy to report I haven't gained any weight yet from the excessive indulgence of many variety's this past few months.

5. Back a bit to number 2  what makes people so miserable?  Why do they have to be that way?  They are here in paradise and they are snarling at kids and people just minding their own business? why I say? What kind of mentality is that?

6. Tonite is Survivor,  frankly I haven't been watching this series very much.  Last week I saw that Ozzie got voted out.  I really liked him on the previous series but not so much this time.  Maybe it was his haircut.  I once broke up with a guy in 8th grade because I didn't like his perm.

7. Tomorrow we are having a local family over for dinner. We met the husband in the casino. They are bringing island style fish so I guess we will be having our food look back at us.  I think I will make the salads and desserts.  He is currently contemplating moving his family to Canada for better job opportunities.  They think of snow in a romantic way,  wait till they spend one winter with it....

8.The kids are starting to bicker at each other and its getting on my nerves.  I guess the close quarters and constant companionship is taking its toll.

9. I have had a sore throat for a few days now and my trying to kill the germs with alcohol doesn't seem to be working.

10.Of all the various web sites and groups I am apart of I really like this multiply blog one the best.  Facebook is ok to look up old friends but speaking your thoughts here just is much more fulfilling.

11. When someone you meet online just disappears and you never hear from them again do you wonder if they died, lost their internet or just weren't interested in you anymore.

12. I am really a glass half full kind of person.  I tend to look on the bright side of everything.  However I am suspicious too, of people and their motives.  These two characteristics sometimes wage war in my head.

13. Why is it called Thursday Thirteen and where did this originate.  One would think Friday the 13th would sound better.  How about Thirsty Thursday that sounds right?  People knowing one more day till the weekend.

I guess I have more garbage in my head then I know. lol

You know its tough living here on Gilligan's Island.  We have to forage for our food and drinks.  Lucky we have learned to live off the land and sea.

Thursday Thirteen

is brought to you by places I have been or lived.

1. Maui Hawaii  I had the good fortune to live there a couple of years in the mid 90's.  This is the most beautiful place I have ever been.  Our second son was born there, hence the name Kaikoa which means 'strong like the sea'.

2. Borrego Springs California  We spent many a winters in this wonderful desert town.  We seen lots of road runners, giant jack rabbits.  The weather was perfect and the desert flowers were the best in the world.  There is a hike you can go on up through a desert valley and ends in a palm oasis with a pond and numerous palm trees.

3.Grand Bahamas Island  pure white sand crystal blue water cheap rum what more can I say.

4. Las Vegas Nevada this has got to be the funnest place on earth.  There is something to do  for everyone.  Our daughter was born there and her name is Nevada.

5. Cancun Mexico we went there before it was the big tourist mecca it is today.  I don't know if I would want to go back and see the quaintness gone over to mega resorts.  I swam in a lagoon there with alligators unknowingly on my part. still have all my limbs.

6. Hicks Lake British Columbia  we go camping there or just for a picnic during the summer months. It's about a half our drive from our house.  This mountain lake is refreshing and unspoiled.  No motor boats are allowed on the lake so the water is pristine.

7.Yale British Columbia  this place is in the Fraser canyon and is an old gold mining town.   The river there is squished through a very narrow channel so the noise is deafening.  WE go sturgeon fishing there were there is a small back eddy.  We have caught 8 feet sturgeons out of there.  There are also train tunnels that are really cool as they are as they were when they originally blasted the rock out.  Many a chinese rail workers lost their lives building the railroad.

8.Mexico City Beach Florida.  wow what can I say this place has the whitest sand I have ever seen.  We spent the winter there in 2002.  Our four bedroom two bath house was right on the beach you walked out the front door onto the sand.  The rent was $750 for the month you can't beat that.

9. Las Cruses New Mexico is the most picturesque city I have had the pleasure of driving through.

10.  Jasper National Park  everyone should if they get a chance go see this Canadian beauty.  You will see all the wildlife to your hearts desire.  Just don't stop your car on the highway to take pictures.  There are vehicles coming up behind you on hairpin curves and its just not a good idea.

11. Tofino Vancouver Island British Columbia.  If you come in the winter months you can witness the most awesome display of natures wrath.  Don't go to far out on the rock out crop-pings.  They lose a tourist or two every winter to giant rogue waves. Mostly german tourists.

12. Carlsbad Beach State park.  This campground is on sandstone bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  You can watch the whales and the dolphins and seals right form your picnic table.  The sunsets are breath taking.  The sound of the waves puts you to sleep at night.

13.  Harrison River British Columbia.  Every time we take our boat up there I am transported to a different world.  The water is so blue it almost looks green.  There is no development along the shores that I can see and I love the beauty of nature untouched.

well five of the places named are right in my own backyard.  I think I live in a pretty wonderful location.  In the summer that is...

stupid people

Grrrr. The other day we seen people standing on the coral head down the beach, Yesterday Harry and the kids went snorkeling there.  They noticed a large chunk of coral head broken off.  What is with people don't they know you are never supposed to touch or stand on the coral.  Coral reefs are disappearing all over the world. Pollution and abuse are killing them off faster than you know.  In fact many ocean communities have to build artificial reefs. I wish I had walked down the other day and gave a lesson in ocean etiquette. Well the kids and Harry did see a number of awesome fish and 2 nurse sharks.  I would have went with them but my lips are so sunburned I am reminded of the line from Napoleon Dynamite (the movie) can you bring me some chap-stick my lips hurt real bad.

The countdown is on we are are starting to make X's on the calender.  I can't believe how fast the time has gone.  Our naughty eldest son is still remaining incommunicado.  I sent him the guilt email this morning.  We know you are grown up son but we still love and worry about you.......

THURSDAY THIRTEEN

Today's thirteen will be brought to you by the letter C.

1. Cookies, does anyone not like cookies.  I have yet to meet a cookie hater in my lifetime.

2. Cat's,  I love cats and have never had two with the same personality. We currently don't own a cat due to allergies so that's a heavy sigh.

3. Careless, that's me and I have had that nickname since 1988.  I was nicked that because of my carefree attitude.

4. Car's I don't really care what kind of car I drive as long as it's dependable, has enough seats for the kids and their friends and not too bad on fuel.

5. Chairs  everyone should have a really comfy chair they can curl up in and relax, read or do what ever pleases you.

6.Candles I like the look of candles but they make my nose itch and I think the smoke from them can't be too good for the lungs.

7. Cheezies,  I am not a big fan of cheezies.  In Canada they have Hawkins cheezies made from real cheddar.  They are hubby's favourite snack.

8. Chest of drawers, does anyone even use that term anymore.

9.Crisp,  there is something about the word crisp that makes me think of clean for some reason.

10.Conch, pronounced conk.  This island delicacy is  so yummy no matter how its prepared.

11. Cable tv what did we do before we had endless channels to surf?  When I was a kid we had 2 channels.

12. Cedar are yard back home has numerous huge cedar trees.  They smell great and make great decorations at Christmas.

13 Cock,  every barnyard should have one.  Get your mind out of the gutter you people what were you thinking this isn't an x-rated site.

5. I think I am starting to put on a couple of pounds.

6. Yesterday for a fleeting moment I thought to join the gym next door for a month.

7. I am making pizza from scratch tonite for supper even using yeast for the crust.

8. The neighbors condo has a horrible musty smell and when she leaves her front door open I can smell it in here and have to shut our front door.

9. I have been walking by a papaya tree on a vacant lot for two months now and they still aren't ripe.

10. I think today I will make myself actually swim instead of  just floating around.

11. I really feel like cracking a cold one but I will have a drink of water instead.

12. I am listening to "Life is a Highway"  I love that song and its making me type faster.

13. I have run out of books to read, and am thinking of reading the kids school books.

Yeah I made it, I hope your all very proud.  Everyone get up and give Carol a standing ovation and pass me a cold one while your up.  And maybe make some ice, make sure you use the filtered water...
