We have medals and the lake was great

Well it took over a week but the Canadians finally won some medals.  We got three in one day,  one of each colour.  Not quite as exciting as Micheal Phelps swimming to his 7th gold, that guy is awesomeness personified.  Well enough of that Olympic talk...

The lake was just as great as always.  It never fails to amaze me how I live so close to such a pristine, beautiful place.  Just over a 45 minute drive, not even through city traffic but in the country and over a river and around a bigger lake I am in one of my favourite places on earth.  I find the people at Hicks a different sort that frequent the beaches and lakes around here.  They take a little more care with their garbage, don't crank their music up disturbing others and just generally are more friendly and considerate.

Whenever the kids and I go anywhere outdoors we generally bring a bag with us and pick up trash and empties.  Yesterday we were hard pressed to bring anything home.  Harrison found a beer bottle deep in the lake while snorkeling and I found one tucked in a rock by shore.  There was no garbage anywhere.  Not a chip bag, candy wrapper, cigarette carton nothing.

I have to tell you something rather funny and all part of Carol-ing.   In recent years our Provincial bloodsucking government has found another way to tax and take money out of our pockets.  It's to pay to park at our provincial parks.  I figure I pay enough taxes every year and a portion goes for these facilities,  coupled with the fact that taking the family to the lake was the last free family outing a person can do I refuse to pay to park.  So when ever I park I write a note and put it on my windshield stating the parking meter wouldn't take my credit card. It gives me a good feeling that I am in some way fighting the establishment.  I haven't had a ticket yet.

Today is supposed to be another scorcher,  I bet get some more wobblies in the fridge chilling.  Happy 3rd last weekend till school starts.

  2. First of all, wow...you look fantastic in a bikini and I hate you! (Amber makes sound like workman whistle)

Picking up trash! That is something the Brits need to learn about! One of the hardest things about moving here was getting used to the litter. Now I even litter sometimes without a second thought. Its just what people do here!

I am so jealous that you have warm enough weather to go swimming in a lake. I have giving up all hopes of any warm weather. This is the second summer of misery. (Amber stamps foot and pouts, I want some of that global warming!)

  3. Thank you, I have been working out all summer and the results are paying off. I didn't know Harrison took the picture till I got home. I wish I was smiling.

  4. You do look quite pissed off in that shot....nice suit by the way. Glad to see the medals are coming - as your Prime Minister said - Canada is a second half team. (Least I think it was your PM - I am easily confused).
I also think its wonderful that the lake was clean.....I do the same sort of thing when I go walking by the river and its quite frustrating to see how much trash I collect - especially since there are trashbins available usually within sight of each other.
Now, was it a nice, warm lake or one of those take your breath away getting in ones?

  5. The lake is nice and warm. Not probably warm enough for you but as warm as we get up here in the great white north. I wasn't pissed about the picture cause I didn't know about it, I was cringing at walking over the sharp rocks.

  6. Well, I can tolerate August in New Hampshire so I imagine your lake can't be much worse.......and barefoot over rocks - too cheap for shoes ;).

I think your meter note idea is excellent, by the way - and I definitely see your point.

  7. I had shoes but I couldn't very well wear them when I was swimming in the lake.......In fact I had my $2.99 crock knock-offs.

  8. I wonder if putting a note on your car will work for any meter. You are one hot momma in a suit. I wish i could go to a lake that close. we have a lot of lakes ands bodies of water around here, but not that close. and certanly not that pretty. I wish everyone would learn to pick up their trash. it would make things so much nicer.
