Just a hodge podge of random randomness....
1. We are going to the corn maze tonight. I love that place, its really quite huge and hard to get out of. I am thinking of taking a compass with tonight : ) www.chilliwackcornmaze.com
2.I have been a very busy beaver what with making jelly's and juices. I love the fall harvest. We have had excellent weather, no rain yet.
3.Em's cell phone talk makes me really think about the stupidity of people putting every ones lives at risk. What could possibly be so important that you have to have that phone glued to your ear 24/7. Are they even really talking to someone? Maybe they think its cool to walk around the store, mall, kids concert, church talking on their phone.
4.Winter isn't even here and we are already battling flu bugs in our house. Kaikoa's already missed 3 and a half days of school and Nevada 2. I hate when they miss school. Except of course for the 3-6 months they miss when we take them on holidays : )
5.I am still digging outside and the ongoing landscaping project continues on. I am starting to think it will never end. Now Hairball wants to move the front door to the side of the house...
6.I took Oma up to the grave-site yesterday to see Opa's gravestone. I must say we were very disappointed in the workmanship. The engraving wasn't the same depth all over and they left dirt all over the top of it. YOu think they could have washed it after they laid it down.
7.Canadian Thanksgiving is on Monday and I love turkey day. I love the prep work with all the baking and shopping and planning. This year we are having the dinner at Harry's moms ( Oma). She just lives in the house up front so I will be doing alot of the work.
8.Sorry here's another copy from Em's blog but its about health care. I don't believe in a full socialized system but I feel there is a combination of the both private and subsidized that can work. It amazes me the lack of compassion people have for those less fortunate then them. Not everyone has the advantages or the brains to be in a position to pay for their own health care and I don't see what's wrong with us more fortunate ones helping out.
9.Still looking at leaving for Thailand the beginning of the new year. I found some incredible flight on China Air for $875 round trip. I can't even fly to eastern canada that cheap.
10.Halloween is coming and Nevada still hasn't decided what she wants to be. I remember as a kid that was all you talked about in Oct. I guess it isn't as big a deal anymore. The majority of the houses don't even give out candy and hardly any parents let their kids go trick-or-treating.
11.I have hair woes, I don't want to go with the full colour but you can see grey. I don't want to look old..
12.I heard on the news that there was a breast cancer breakthrough. This past summer Harrison's friend lost his mother to the disease. I hope something good comes of this and doesn't get pushed on the back burner. I wonder sometimes where all the money goes that is raised?
13.Well that's about it going on in my life sorry to bore you but I still can't seem to get my writers block unblocked : )
13.
First off - grey hair doesn't make people look old necessarily...look at Emmy Lou Harris who has been gray forever and is extremely hot (not that there is anything wrong with me noticing that). But if you don't like it - try the semipermanent stuff that eventually shampoos out gradually - the name escapes me but Clairol makes it and Trish uses it on her gray cause she doesn't want to commit to touching up roots and all that. Oh, it's Natural Instincts
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I'm going to mess with Halloween this year or not.....I imagine we have some kids in the neighborhood - but it's not at all like it was when I was growing up - or my son for that matter...I know exactly what you mean.
You and I tend to think a lot alike on world issues like the health care thing. I don't think I realized until just a few years ago that everyone doesn't have the same brains and abilities......and that there are people doing the best they can and still living in conditions that most of us wouldn't or couldn't tolerate. And that's just not right.
Sorry that the gravestone isn't all that it should be......I want pictures of the landscaping.
And I so wish I could meet up with you in Thailand but it's just too far and too many expenses this year.......but I'll make it up to see you once you get home I need to collect on that ham dinner.
around the gravestone? lmao I know what you mean but it still looks messy cause it isn't done.
ReplyDeleteWhen my grey starts to show, I either buy a box or go have it done. it doesnt last long enough to worry about what color Im goona do it. I figure if i dont like the color, I can put another one on. I refuse to go or show my grey though.
ReplyDeletehalloween isnt as big anywhere it seems. John loves it for the huge selection of candy HE gets. I buy cases of chips from work and hand them out to the kids. they get all happy to get chips. strange.
TG on a Monday? do you get the day off?
its against the law here to text or talk on a cell phone while driving. that doesnt stop the people from still doing it. the other day, a girl came close to hitting us as she texted on her phone. Im afraid to honk at them, it may startle them into me. they arent paying attention anyway.
Yes we get the day off its called a Statutory holiday here. Bank Holiday in England. It basically means all government offices and banks are close and you get paid.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the cell phone thing either. Like what could be so important that you have to have a phone at your ear at every place you go? I really don't want the bill collectors to be able to access me in public either!!! LOL. So I don't have one, and probably never will.
ReplyDeleteSo far, at age 52, I have no grey hairs yet...it's still blondish-brown. And it all grew back in after the cancer disasters...yeh....finally looking nice again...Duke bought me some barretts to put in it....
No Halloween isn't the same as it was when I was a kid. Sure miss those days. Now people are afraid of idiots putting razor blades in apples and kidnapping their kids....Can't say I blame them there...
Something has to be done about the US healthcare system. It isn't fair...people cannot get insurance if they have a disease like cancer or renal failure. Other's are low-income and can't afford insurance. Then there are those like me who are on Medicare and I can't afford to pay what Medicare doesn't pay, and the providers don't care-they want their money!!! I am paying off Duke's dental bill of $188 and some radiology bills and another hospital bill (Duke's) of $534 which are the "leftovers" of what Medicare didn't cover. This is pretty rough on our income.
I personally would like to see more attention paid to Leomyosarcoma. That's the cancer I had, and NO one ever hears of it....
